Boutique Hotel

In the heart of Nafplio’s old town, next to the library, a protected building from 1910 was given a new life. Originally an ambassador’s residence in the 1930s–1950s, later a family home, and abandoned for over 20 years, it has been transformed into a modern boutique hotel with a distinctive character.

Spanning 180 m², the building now houses nine bedrooms organized into five presidential suites with a living room and bedroom, along with an interior courtyard–lounge serving as the central hospitality hub.

The aesthetic relies on earthy tones, dominated by soft greys, natural wood, and beige. The original wooden shutters were preserved, highlighting the building’s heritage, while the interior decoration remains minimal to emphasize the architectural character.

Approach

The challenge of this project was to preserve the building’s historic identity while giving it the functionality of a modern boutique hotel. The design focused on restoring original features—wooden frames, the building shell, and traditional structure—while the interior followed a minimalist approach so as not to overshadow the architectural heritage.

Earthy tones and the use of natural materials create a warm, inviting atmosphere, while the internal courtyard serves as the hotel’s heart, enhancing guest interaction. Transforming an abandoned heritage building into a luxurious yet understated hospitality space highlights the value of architectural revival and the ability of design to bridge the past with the present.
